I can't help but wonder.  Perhaps Sharon has some hidden motive for the evacuation, besides granting Palestinian statehood (little s).  Perhaps, when all of the Isreali settlers are out, he'll bulldoze the entire area into the sea?  Any thoughts.

Actually...
After some thought, I'm chalking it up to the lack of a decent opponent.

Sharon and Arafat were the two key figures in a conflict that reverberated around the world. With the loss of the only worthy adversary, the conflict itself loses meaning.

I imagine Sharon sitting there wondering how best to honor the other half of his infamy and deciding that the best way to insure the immortality they will both enjoy together... Is to lay the conflict to rest.

When the entity that gave your life purpose is gone... So is that purpose.
